Well another new guy with a question. From reading through the forum I'm thinking I have a bad stator. My sled runs great, but no lights or guages. This is my first Skidoo, and I haven't torn into it yet at all. Is it possible to replace just the lighting part of the stator or am I stuck buying the whole assembly? The microfiche sites don't show a seperate breakdown for this, but I was wondering if it has been done by anyone. I have checked the wiring harness also and there are no bad spots. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

All the sleds I have ever torn into have had replaceable coils on the stator plate check dennis kirk (or parts unlimited through a dealer) they should list seperate internal coils for your sled. what year and model is it? if you can't find out e-mail me and I can check a local salvage yard that usually can find me anything i need.
you can find dennis kirk on the web but I have not had the best of luck with their web site parts finder hoodad.

Well I guess that takes me to another question. Where do I find the code, date, ect. to find out when the motor was manufactured? I'll try and make a long story short. I bought the sled used, it has an 809 from a Crazy Mountain Extreme in a 95 Formula S chassis. The motor has maybe 200 miles on it now, it had just been rebuilt prior to my buying it. As the guy that sold the sled has moved, and stupid me forgot to get the motor year(I was too busy drooling over the power I guess). I'm stumped. I found 809s in parts pages and could never find specific info. So here I am.

My friend just had his stator replaced on his 2000 MXZ 600.
My 1999 MXZ 600 stator went last year. The dealer were we bought our sleds at said that they replace lots of stators.
My friend called Ski-Doo and they said that they do not have a problem!!!
He asked the lady if she really works for Ski-Doo , She didnt find the humor..
He asked her if anyone there ever read any of the magazines that say the stator is the weekest link.
She said that they have not heard that.
He said again , you do work for Ski-Doo ?, right..
Still not funny.
If the stator gives me trouble on my 02 MXZ X 800 I be goin to polaris.

Isn't there a fuse that may be blown? Most units have curcuits protected by a fuse or fuseable link. Before pulling out the stator, check the resistance of its windings. Easily done at the mag side by unplugging the wiring and using an ohm meter. What about your rectifier? Just some places to look.

Check your wires and make sure they didn't rub through on  bracket or the frame.  I just went through this on my 440.  I lost my lights and gauges.  My wires rubbed through where they were zip-tied to the oil tank.  Fixed the wires and its been fine.

Almost 100% positive it is the voltage regulator.   If it was the stator it would probably just quit all at once.  I think you can bank on the voltage regulator.   Let us know.

Is there a way to test to see if the voltage regulator is gone?  I have been working on a 2000 mxz 700 with fuel and temp guages that are not working.  Everything else seems to be fine (headlights, guage lights, handwarmers, etc.).

MXZ X 800, jumping ship to Polaris may not solve your problem. I have a bud with a 98 XC 700 and he has had to replace both his stator and cdi box (I have also read of a few more with similar problems on other forums). Even though it may seem that way it's not just a Skidoo problem.

I'd look at the voltage regulator when they go they blow out all fuses and or light bulbs. One way to check is to start the sled let warm up put a new bulb in while it's idling and it will light up and give it so rpm's and it will blow it out then it's bad.Lighting coil the lights get weaker and weaker and go out.Stator the sled gets harder to start and then it don't start no more

i have a 02 mxz800rer and was in canada earlier this week riding. we went out for a 200 mile trip and returning my tach started to jump around while i held the throttle at a steady pace. it would go away and come back. also i noticed the headlight would flicker every once and a while. i took a quick look and couldnt find anything. later when it got dark about 20 miles from where we were staying the tach made 2 big jumps around and everything went out, the gauges and all the lights and warmers but the motor ran fine. when i finally got back i looked a little closer and found one coil wire chaifed from where it was rubbing on the cowl almost to the core by the plug cap and the other wire was cracked right at the plug cap. anyway i dropped it off and im waiting to here from the dealer.  i will inform what happen when i find out. but evryone should keep an eye on their wire hood clearance.
