Stuck helix?

I have the snap ring off, but the helix is stuck. From what I gather from reading the old post here is that it should slide off unless stuck. However I could not find any advice on ways to free it up for removal.  I am sure other people have experienced this, so I thought I would stop and ask before I did something that I regreted.

Any help would be appreciated.
