The Misery Of This Sport Just Hit Me

We live north of Harrisburg PA.. We don't get much snow here.. The season is short enough as it is and now it's pretty much over.. We were going to try and get one last trip in next week but the weatherman says it's going to rain and be warm at Old Forge...So I spent all this money on two beautiful sleds and I'll only get to use them a couple of times each season. It's not so bad that I'd sell them or anything,I'm hooked and so is my wife. I should have stayed where I grew up.. Vermont, or where I lived for a decade after that, Colorado... Oh well..We still got to ride about 750mi. each this season.

i put my first 43 miles of the season on last friday.
Most of us know the agony of our sport tic, when we add up the cost vs actual riding day's/time it's very discouraging... Until, and I mean until you saddle up and ride and then it's all worth it ! We are all in a very expensive sport here, no secret at all. But I can't think of too many things that give me the thrill that my seld does. ( and before someone say's it, I said " too many things") Many of us on here think, live, breath snowmobiling ya know? You and your wife sound like your right there with us. So, we just wait through all the agonizing months and look forward and count down the day's until we ride again. YOU will ride again, and again, and again and the insanity will never go away. Welcome to the insanity. [attachment=34398:6.gif]

Don't feel so bad about putting 750 miles on. I just barley put over 500 miles on my sled this year. Heck, this is the second season I owned my sled and I still Have NOT hit the 1000 mile mark. I just look at it this way. At least the machines stay new on the account that they are not getting the were and tear put on them. That means LESS MAINTENANCE.
I know.. I just bought new skiis for my sled and doolys for both sleds... at the END OF THE SEASON!.. New plugs, new hyfax.. going to rebuild my recoil.. etc. etc... Wife wants a new tow vehicle.. I want a new trailer.. It IS insanity but we had SO MUCH FUN this winter with the sleds... She just informed me that we could use BOTH my weeks of vaca time next winter for sledding.. She used to like to go on cruises...hehehhehehe... boy did I luck out.. I HATED those cruises!..
Just got back from a little 11 mile blast on the Ottawa River here in Toledo . Which put me over 1000 miles for the first time in years. I think that its time too stick a fork in it for this 06/07 season. I will be back for more next year . SWRules

WELL, If you got two weeks in winter. Come on over to MICHIGAN. I'm sure that some people here, including ME will take you out riding.
Thanks for the invite!... We haven't met anyone we didn't like yet while sledding.. One "close call" though.. Kinda humorous.. We were lost south of tug hill on a long loop .. The trail disappeared in a town.. No idea where to pick it up again... we got gas and two scruffy looking guys, one on an old 600 triple with no muffler and the other on a beat up polaris pulled in to get gas.. I asked them where the trail was and they tried to explain... The guy on the polaris said "any cops from where you were riding?".. I told the guys beer was on me if they could lead us to pick up the trail out of the town.. They gladly agreed.. Sue wass leery.. she says "they might hit you over the head and then RAPE ME!".. LMAO...We NEVER would have picked up the trail w/o these guys... They were riding fast but waited for us at every intersection, road crossing and possible confusion point.. After a half hour we ended up at a really cool bar.. Sue didn't want to go in..LOL.. We go in and it was FREE food and CHEAP beer!... Had a great chat w/the guys, thanked them for the escort, backed them up on their beers and headed out, right onto the trail.. What a great sport...

Good story!!
ive only put on about about 250-300 miles this year and enjoyed every single one of them. i took em out as much as i could behind my house in the forest preserves. i wish the winters would last longer though. oh well. still fun though.
Well Tic your doing better than me my sled has been down for a month I got 50miles on it before the motor blew and I finally picked it up from the shop with a full rebuild and lil cutch work tonight. Got about 2hrs of riding in tonight but me and the boys are headin in to Port Loring ont this tomorow for the rest of the weekend to get some riding in at a buddy of ours trapper camp but its suppose to be +6 and rain on saturday!! :( .

Grant.
I feel your pain tic, although we had a good season this year in vt, last year my dad and i bought sleds brand new and put 3 miles on them all season, talk about a dissapointment! but snow4 is right, its so worth it
Hey Doo The Doo from Sucker Ditch......Where abouts is your buddys trap shack?

BTW heres a breakdown of my season....snow flies- try to get old sled running (no spark), after a week of working on it and no luck with using old parts scrounged up I decided to buy my brothers MX off of him.

Now I got the MX. After replacing every single bearing in the suspension/drive axle (boy I don't know how he let it get so bad) used it for ice fishing three weekends then it blew up :(

The next weekend I was invited to go out ice fishing with some friends but I didn't have my sled fixed yet. No problem, I jsut borrowed my dad's sled, a 1992 Skandic 377. I just got the lake in site and the sled dies. Open the hood and find the injector cable dangaling loose from the pump :( now I got another one to rebuild.

whooo hoooo great season!
I'm starting to feel better now. I at least got 1500 miles in this season before mine blew up. The last 100 was the best conditions I have ever ridden. I wish I could have ridden the other 200 that everyone else in the group got to ride, but oh well. Still worth it. I love this silly expensive sport!!

At least you live in PA where you have a decent chance of riding. I live in Florida and purchased a 2007 Arctic Cat Z570 LX and only put 200 miles on it this year. I tried to go again this week back to Michigan but could not make it.

i noticed not a damn bit was stayin on the mainland. gettin all blown away...shame... aw well maybe ill get a good deal on a new sled from down there...
haaa..i know what your all going through. I use to have new sleds then went to vintage to stay in the sport then i got out og it all together now i been sledless for 3 yrs. It really sux cause i work on these things for a living and see everyones toys and i dont have them. It is spendy i know but it is a total sickness that you can get rid of. I did try walk away and never look back but its close to impossible. Oh doesnt help when your fiance wants a sled. :lookaround:

Ouach! That hurts.
All I cam tell you is that if I lived in Nova Scotia I'd be taking the ferry to NFLD as often as I could. You're two and a half hours from the ferry, six more hours to get to NFLD, and then an hour and a half north and you're in snowmobile paradise.
72h2kaw i bet you get some funny looks down there with that thing on a trailer lmao.you should park it in the driveway and see what happens.i can just picture it in my head now thats funny.

Snowmobiling is a sad and joyful addiction. At least you have the Wifey into it too.
Maybe we'll hook up some time with Jake.

That has to be sweet having a sled in the garage in FLA.
