Just wondering, on average, how many km's a track can endure before it should be replaced. What are the high and low ends of the spectrum?

I have a friend with a mountain machine with 2" paddles. He got less than one season on his track before he tore about half the lugs off. Riding on snow that's really not deep enough to hide all the rocks can take it's toll. I have a trail sled with 4000 miles on it, and the track looks like it will go another 4000. Like Dooman says, there are a LOT of variables.
