According to my '93 Plus X parts manual, the motor was a Type 583.

Yes that is the engine that made it to production

[n]but not the original engine intended for the 93 Plus X[/b]

I have the original 93 brochure and it is not the 583

I also have the later brochure that says 583

good guess though Kris

anyone else dare to answer :D

You might be thinking of the Mach 1s that had 617s ('91 or '92?). I talked w/ Wayne Nicholson in Eganville when he was racing Stock & Formula 3. The Machs that were being raced had a different motor than the consumer sleds. I think the motor was in the consumer sleds the following year.

I used to know that stuff back then :p .

Yup the 617cc type 643

the single pipe version from the 91-92 mach 1

the 92 Mach 1 X had the twin pipe version but they had problems and gave the owners the choice of a 670

So the 93 Plus X was suppose to get the single pipe 617

But in the spring of 92 the ISR changed the rules to 600cc or less for the 93 season

it screwed both Yamaha as they had the Vmax 750(Bender) and Doo with the 617 in the Plus X(Mach 1 X in 92)

Doo went with the 583 RAVE last used in 1990 Mach 1

Here is a pic to prove it

Jay, is that from the small brochure? I'm pretty sure I have 1 out in the sled shed (brother wonders why I don't bin the stuff). I didn't look @ the brochures as I figured the X version wouldn't have been shown, just the regular Plus. Seeing the EFI below it, I remember seeing the new 'doos in Barrie that spring.

ya I have both the early spring model ones and the other one I got in the fall

I also had the 94 brochure with the 94 Formula Plus EFI

They canned the model in the summer like they did with the Mach Z

BUT I can not find it anymore
