Wawa Trip

On the trip, ScottMc, Renegademike and I
Well after buying our Ontario passes back in November we didn't think they would get used this season due to the lack of snow but sure enough last weekends conditions looked as good at they would get. We packed our bags and head to Wawa for 3 days of riding, Thurs-Sun., and just like everyone always says the trails were flawless. We were the only people staying at our motel and each day we only passed one or two sleds on the trails.
We did manage to do some extreme boondocking our first time in a foreign country as well. Ernie at Ernies resturant in Missanabie gave us the hot tip on how to get from his place back to Wawa using the lakes and two tracks. He did of corse say that we shouldn't attempt this at night and to proceed with caution during the daylight hours due to it being our first time in the area. Feeling venturous and armed with our gps's we made our way back to Wawa in the dark crossing 30 miles of a lake we new nothing about. We did hit a few wet patches :eek:hmy: and managed to find the land crossing but as you can see I'm typing this so we made it :D Other boondocking included climbing some of the tallest hills I've ever seen. We had approx 2.5 feet in the woods so it was plenty deep but we could have used a bit more as the rocks are brutal when trying to climb these monsters.
We also met some of the nicest people on this ride. Everywhere we went the people were out of their way friendly, even the motel owners took pictures of us at their motel and sent them to me along with a note wishing us a safe return home :) They even gave ScottMc some souvenier coins for his kids without even thinking about charging for them, we will definitly be staying at their place again.
Here are some pics.

This dude wouldn't mind checking out those trails!
Hey jason glad you had a great time at one of Team Renegades favorite spots..Did you make it to Halfway Haven or Dubreville?
You guys seem like the kind of people I'd like to ride with. I love the adventures at night, the hill climbing through the alders, getting off the beaten path and finding out how deep the snow is, trying not to get stuck out tear more lugs off my track. Most of the time I do that kind of stuff all by myself cause most people don't like to get off the groomed trail.

Your right about the snow, the motel owner said it was the least amount of snow they had had reported for the last 100 years.

Yep thats pretty much sums it up, I really can't believe how well this 1.75 lug track on the Gade has held up, only 1 torn off after 6000 miles. We will definitly be back again next season so if you want to meet up for some playing that would be cool.

Yes on Dubreville and no to Halfway Haven, actually one of the pics is at a reasturant in Dubreville.

OHHH! I almost forgot, I got a real funny story from the trip.
Well after riding all the way to Dubreville and not seeing any other sleds we stop at the sole gas station in town to fuel up. While filling up 3 sleds pull up and start to fill up as well, anyways we finish up and ScottMc and RenegadeMike pull out ahead of me. As I start to pull away one of the sledders in the other group flags me down so I stop and turn the sled off. As I lift my helmet to see what he wants he says, "You wouldn't happen to be Jason would you" :eek:hmy: , I was shocked. Turns out that last week while I was surfing the Ontarioconditions forum that Freezerburnt suggested, I had mentioned to a fellow member that we would have 2 X Gades and a Switchback in our group. By some strange chance of luck we where in the same place at the same time and he our sleds. To make things ever more odd, the very next day in Missanabie we pull into Ernies for gas and food and what do we see. No other sleds there but the 3 guys we had met the day before in Dubreville, almost like it was karma and we where supposed to met this group.
From that point on I had to listen to ScottMc tease me that I was known world wide

The restaurant and hotel are owned by the same folks Khan and Sandy very nice people. They offered me a job while I was there :p

Jason I cant tell you how many times that has happened to us meeting folks in the middle of nowhere. When we were at Halfway Haven we met SW member Cheryl Hubbert.
Good to hear you 3 had a good time. Next year We also plan on getting to Ontario. Pics look great Jason.

Jason, so glad to hear you guys had a great time in the great white north, eh. I can see by your pics that you traveled the Magpie, which means that you went by the gold mine and the badlands. There is lots of opportunities in the badlands for off trail action. I did hear that a new owner has purchased the mine and this could shut it down for off trail, :(. Ernies makes some of the best burgers around. That town is so small, less than 35 people. All of the people we have met in that area have been very friendly and more than happy to help. If they get normal snow there next year, I will return.

Sorry Perm not the Magpie, looks like you need a refresher trip  w00t This pic was taken on Manitowik lake. We didn't do the Magpie as we heard the conditions weren't very good but did run into some folks who had, just not enough time :bash: . At least we know for next time where some good offtrail is

Ernies, Pizza isn't to bad either.
looks like you guys had a good time.
