I recently picked up a 96 ZRT 800 with the 1000 upgrade on it. The machine is in mint condition however I just discovered the chain is stretched and needs replacing. The gears are stock 24/39.
While I've got it apart I was considering changing the gears.
What would work best on this machine? 25/38 or 24/40 ?
or should I leave it as is. It pulls like crazy now. Thanks for your input.

Most say to gear down, but on my zert 600 it liked to be geared up for trail riding. If it was my sled I would go with 24/40 as the trips seem to like to be worked harder. JMO

You can't tell much by the seat-o-pants meter, but it showed a few mph improvement for me on 1000' radar. Main improvement can be felt however when going from a 20mph rolling start and pinning the happy button. :D

That sounds like what I'm looking for. think I'll give it go and see what happens.
A buddy with ZR 700 recently replaced his heads with ones that had been modified as "trail" heads. He's found a huge difference in performance. Have you heard of this modification? I might look into it for my ZRT. :D
