I'm a bit confused by what's going on with the snowmobile market. On the one hand it seems that "green" is the direction of the future yet every year the biggest machines are outdone by something even bigger. Meanwhile Polaris has dropped two of its smaller fans for the questionable 550 and Arctic Cat appears to to dumping its 370s and 440s - (the smallest Panther next year will top 500 pounds considerably and sport the 570 fan.) The Bearcat line has no fan engines or anything even remotely low in weight.

It appears that we are expected either to drive heavy crotch rockets or even heavier low horsepower "green" 4 strokers which have no purpose as camp rigs (which they sort of replace in speed and horsepower.)

Me thinks that we might be wishing for a few of the "little two-stroke piggies" when the 700/800/900 HP "Hogs" are outlawed in a few years.

I agree with you 100%.  They are getting too wrapped up in producing large high output sleds and are totally canceling out the small consumer sleds.  I preferably love speed and power but feel that it is wrong to focus on the large sled and leave the riders that like the smaller sleds in the cold.

We probably will see all of the sleds take a turn to all 4 stroke, with the exception of the Snowmobile Crossers (SX). The same type of thing has been happening with off road vehicles across the board, example MX bikes.
But Yamaha has the YZ426F and YZ250F that race MX as 4 strokes. Also Chris Vincent and the new RX1 raced in a SX (according to one of the posts here)

Golsovia, I AGREE!  Now I ride my 800 fuelie more than any of the others but I wouldn't even consider getting rid of my 440 fan.  That's the one I use when I go back country alone and it's really cold!  It's PROVEN!  I liked the new bearcat until I saw the weight! GOOD GOD MAN!!!!  While I'm interested in 4stroke technology, I would be scared to run one alone for the simple fact you lose battery power your done.  Game over
