Yamaha Clutch Removal

Never mind! Please forgive my ignorance. I just realized the entire unit must come out, so I will need a puller.

My 81 yamaha ss440 is causing me huge headaches. The belt slips. Clutch will not try to engage until it high rpm's. I think its sticking and I want to pull the clutch to clean the shaft and check the unit out. I have the retaining bolt out, but can't get the clutch off the shaft because there is not enough room between the end of the shaft and the shell/sheetmetal. What am I doing wrong or not doing. does the motor need to be moved? Any help will be appreciated. I have 4 1/2 feet of snow in my yard and can't enjoy it.
