Restored Kawasaki Interceptor 550. For those who don't know a lot about the Interceptor, It was Kawasaki's True race sled. It won sno-goers 1982 shoot out, and there were only 600 ever made, and only in 1982. It has a 530cc twin cylinder engine with 2 spark plugs per cylinder. It Has won at my local vintage show. 1979 Invader, I bought this to restore but haven't had time to. Has had the motor gone thru by a Kawasaki dealer right before I bought it. Many extra parts. Will not separate. $3,000 call with questions. 651-248-8094 or email for pics 94rtegan@nsatel.net

Bullet69,
Man you just took me on a trip down memory lane. I bought one of these in August of 1988 because I also had a 1979 Interceptor 340. And not to mention, because no one in my area had one. It was a one of a kind sled. It was a real screamer, not many of the new machines then could touch it. About two weeks later when I got back home I found out my buddy bought the same thing from the brother-in-law of the guy I bought mine from. lol. Man was I mad. Anyway thanks for the memories.

By the way you wouldn't happen to know the weight of the 550 would you?

I believe it was around 400 pounds. Yeah, their fun sleds. I remember growing up around here there was one guy that had a 1979 Invader 440 that was the fastest sled around. I thought that thing had the best looks of anything out there. I mean they looked fast just sitting still. I'll probably miss it, but then I'll have to go buy another one.

I said that for years too . The Invaders were a real hot looking sled but then they brought out the Interceptor and when I first saw it I was floored. When I first got my Invader 340 in 1984 a friend got a brand new Polaris Sport 440 and the two ran neck and neck. He couldn't get away from me and I couldn't get away from him. lol. Hey you wouldn't happen to have any good pics you could email me do you? I'd like to show my 9 yr old, he'd get a big kick out of seeing what dad used to run. Thanks again.

My first sled was a 79 440 invader, loved that sled it was the hotest sled around at the time. Really until the Interceptor there was nothing to touch it in the straight line..

550 Interceptor

Hi All,

I happened across this section about the Kawasaki 550 Interceptor , and I'm happy to say I'm a proud owner of one and may I add I'm the original owner . The sled's # is 340 the sled only has 1400 miles on it and has been garage kept from day one. Until this day not many sleds sound like it , it has been the most reliable sled I have owned. The sled has never failed to start , even after sitting for four years put gas in it and a few pulls later , that sweet sound of that Kawi comes out....
