Ok I need some help with changing a belt. today I was crusin' in about 1 3/4ft of snow powder when i heard some clunking and then the motor revved to the moon. I knew that i had blown a belt since This happened to my other sled last season. I had my uncle show me how to open up the secondary clutch. Well I took from what I remembered from what my uncle told me. Something along the lines of " turn the clutch and push in to to pen it up. Is there some sort of special trick to changing a belt? My sled is still out on the field :0: ??? :cussing:. Also I saw in a magazine some sort of special tool that makes changing belts easy. Anyone heard or seen something like this?

thanks

if its a farley newer Ski Doo theres a tool in your tool kit that looks like a long threaded screw with a little handle on the end (makes a figure T) ...take that tool and on your secondary you will see on the side a bunch of screws..one has no screw in it (almost looks like it is missing). screw that tool in ..this opens up the clutch and just pull off the belt....just remember to take the tool out after ur done lol. If its a cat....well then your back in the 80's technology still so youll need to pull the clutch back and pull like a motha.

Im assuming you have a cat. You don't need any tools.
1) put on a pair of gloves, stand on left side of sled facing Driven pulley, flip belt guard up.
2) grab the FRONT edge of the INSIDE sheave on the DRIVEN pulley and pull UP on it (with your left hand)
3) while doing #2 above PUSH inward on the hub that holds the spring on the driven pulley (with your right hand)
4) while doing #2 and 3, the sheaves will spread apart allowing the belt to drop down between the them. It can now be pulled outward, over the side of the pulley. You will need to turn the whole pulley while working the belt off. If you pull the belt over the top of the pulley, you will need to rotate CW. If you pull it off the bottom, the pulley needs to turn ccw.

Man you guys make it sound so complicated.

If it's a Cat. Push in on the cover where the helix is. If the belt is stiff you might need to push down on it (while pushing on the cover). The belt will hold the sheeves apart. Pull the belt off the bottom of the secondary. You don't need to turn anything, or put on the brake.

With any other machine is helps to hold the brake while you pull up on the lower part of the belt, in between the clutchs. It will spread teh sheeves of the secondary apart. Then you can take the belt off over teh top of the secondary.

Ski-doo's new tool is for women and children. You can change three belts in the time it would take someone to do one with that. I have a friend who had that tool in his kit for about 3 years and never knew what it was for because he couldn't imagine the need for it.

judging by his name i'd have to say its a cat. This is what i do push down on the bottom side of the belt and then take it off the bottom side of the secondary clutch. To put a new one on put the belt around the primary then put the top side of the belt in the top of the secondary and turn the clutch clockwise till the belt pops in.
